This is probably a stupid question, but...
I have a skirt that's outside is some sort of slik fabric that... I don't know enough about fabrics to directly compare it, but maybe like a faux satin, only much more plastic-feeling? Maybe vinyl?
THe reason this is probably going to be a stupid question is the actual question: do you think I could paint it red, like with spray paint or something, and not have it look like crap?
Because it's the only skirt I have that's short enough (without being nerve-wrackingly immodest) to fit with a costume I'd like to do of Misato from Evangelion, but it's black, when I need it to be red.

Can one paint on slick fabric without it looking like crap?

I looked at my little plastic model of her today, and noticed the skirt has a fold down the middle in the front, so this might be a good idea, considering my skirt doesn't have that... I'm not at all good at sewing, but for that, I could probably use a machine, which would probably be easier for me...BlackKnightress210 wrote:I'm not sure if you can paint it, but I'd make the black layer a lining and sew on the red outside. *nods*
Or maybe a wrap of sorts with velcro on the inside (maybe safety-pin it on the inside of the skirt so it stays in place and keeps tight)? Because now that I look at the skirt in its current form, I keep getting ideas for other costumes using it.

On a side note... anyone know what size and shape fabric/inner thingy that gives the inside its shape that I'd need to make the little red hat she wears sometimes, or at least where I can get a hat similar to that for not too awfully much?
Give me a sec, I'll get you a picture or three...
*googles*
Here's a pretty good one:

The hat appears to be a normal red beret, but with a patch thing on it... I could make the patch myself, or probably the hat too, but... help please?

Ugh, though, those artists and their random modifications... the model I have is just... one layer over the other, lik it was wrapped around. This picture has a black line on the skirt!

A partially-completed model kit, showing both a half-detailed hat and a VERY detailed skirt (including the belt that I forgot she had!):

Also, Eva Platinum DVD 4's cover has her on it - including the hat:

AHA! I knew I wasn't going nuts!

Might take a while to load. Oh, and... that is EXACTLY the skirt that the little "capsule toy" type model I have has! I knew I wasn't crazy... she must just have more than one red skirt. Maybe one is mangaverse and the other is animeverse or something, too.
Another pic of her in the hat:
