Dokuro-chan's club

Im making a dokuro-chan cosplay and I need to make her club to go with it. origonally i though about just buying a cheap plastic bat and using paper mache to add width and the spikes, but now im not so sure that it will be strong enough. any suggestions?

Cheap bat but instead of the paper mache try something like silicon cement (rubber cement)

good idea, i may try that. will rubber cement hold paint well? bc im gonna have to paint over it at the end
