Rin costume help

I want to make a rin (inuyasha) costume but im unsure of how to make the checkered pattern on her kimono. should i use fabric paint or sew on precut orange material? does anyone ahve any better ideas?

Interesting costume. My suggestion would be to either
A) try to find material that is actually checkered (which would probably be very difficult) or
B) make the checks yourself using a quilting method of actually cutting out and sewing orange checks.

The paint is a good idea, but that can tend to be a little messy, and white material with orange paint is just asking for trouble. Piecing it together will take time, but it will definitly look good in the end. Good luck!

Definately go with the quilting meathod. In the end, the paint could end up looking distacting. I'd make a large piece of the checkered fabric first, and cut the pattern from there.
