About this Costume
- Personal Thoughts:
- When I discovered Inuyasha, back in middle school, I had jumped in to the middle of the series and found it dull and difficult to follow at first. I just wanted to watch Rurouni Kenshin but my best friend made me watch Inuyasha, too, and she was the anime supplier, so I had no choice. Before I knew it, however, the series became my number one and I reached an obsession level that I look back on and cringe at. My walls were covered in my own Inuyasha fanart and posters (including a self insert character), I had an Inuyasha tshirt I literally wore until it was in shreds, I even indulged in writing a fanfic (something I'd never done before and never did again). When the second Inuyasha movie came out, there was a scene where Inuyasha and Kagome kiss. I had fallen deeply in love with Inuyasha and I was truly convinced it was LOVE. So this scene excited me to the point where I watched it every night before bed for...at least a month. I even bought a bow and started learning archery to feel more like Kagome. All of this to say that Inuyasha is probably the most important anime next to Pokemon in my whole history of weebdom. Most importantly, Inuyasha got me into cosplay. At 16, I bought a Kagome cosplay online. It was my first cosplay and I was so thrilled that I could become the beloved waifu of Inuyasha that I wore it to school and got mistaken for a cheerleader and Sailor Moon. It didn't matter, because I was Kagome, and my nerd friends knew I was Kagome. I wore that cosplay for many years until back in 2017, having gotten a degree in Fashion and Costuming, I decided to go all out and make my own from scratch Kagome. It was 10 years after the original purchase of my first cosplay, and so felt like coming full circle. I still feel just as much joy wearing Kagome as I did the first time I put on that cheap online cosplay. This series and character will forever be a part of me and my cosplay/weeb history.
