About this Costume
Construction Details:
Where to begin, Oh boy. This was definitely an adventure in patience. Well, I started by making a new hoop skirt. I needed one that was draw string rather then fitted waistband. This one I also played with the colors a little bit. It's Black with white boning channels! It's like some sort of stealth airplane! Over that I wear an organdy petticoat that was pretty easy to zip together.

Over that is the underskirt. This things was an adventure. It took 7 yards of 120" wide poly shantung. I marked on the understay skirt where each line of ruching would go...and then sat and hand pleated for longer then I care to remember. I'm super happy with how it ended up!

The over skirt is lined in a stiff poly satin and is made of a suit weight stretch sateen. All the applique is done in a deco suede (the only thing I could find in that color!) and it was then backed in craft fuse for shape. I used the lower edge scallop to finish the hem edges. All the applique was seared with a heat knife and then top stitched into place. (boy did that eat time! my heavens!)

The bodice came together pretty easy, all things considered. I did a mock-up of the sleeves and just used that as my pattern once I was happy with it. All the white was hand pleated into box pleats and Hand pressed after ironing, ouch! The bodice is boned with feather weight boning and Velcros in the back for quick removal! (This was done purposfully for quick change.)

The wig was pretty basic, it's styled based on a civil war hair style i've worn before, I just had to translate how to make that syle stat in wig fiber.

...ok, well. I think that's it for now!
