Construction Details:

The first thing I made was the jacket which is a suiting lined in a crinkled lining (sorry, forgot the fabric's name). I heavily altered Simplicity's 2172 pattern. All the edges of the jacket are either roll hemmed or serged inside (my serger was messed up when I started so that's why some are finished differently). Then I lined it and satin stitched the opening for the soul gem. I picked a more ornate trim than just a plain white because I wanted a more magical feel and I hand sewed all the trim, buttons, and the hook and eye at the collar on to finish the coat. I need to go back to add ruffles but I ran out of time when originally making the costume.

Since I was running out of time, my boyfriend drafted the pattern for the cuffs which are micro suede turned inside out (already had it left over from another costume) and I sewed them together. I then hand stitched snaps to close them, painted some buttons white, and sewed those on for decoration. The white arm warmers are from long white cotton gloves that I cut apart & hemmed.

The skirt was made in about an hour the day of the con. I was running behind on the costume so I grabbed some cotton material I had around, rough drafted my own pattern, serged the edges, lined it, and put in an invisible zipper super quick. Later, I want to go back & remake the skirt with deeper pleats.

The bodice and shoes are stand ins from my closet until I can make more accurate ones. The thigh highs are from sock dreams and the soul gem is from taobao.

Personal Thoughts:

Madoka Magica is my favorite series in a very long time so of course I had to cosplay from it! I absolutly love both Kyoko & Sayaka because I just love really broken characters and both of their designs are adorbale. Kyoko is just a bit easier so I decided to cosplay her first.

Styling Notes

I ordered a wig from Taobao specifically for Kyoko so all I had to do was trim the bangs and sew in a toupee clip to keep the wig from sliding around.
