About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
The art and costume designs for the Methuselahs (vampires) in the Trinity Blood comic book are extremely different from the ones in the novel. While I didn't care for many of them, the dresses Mirka and Seth (the empress) wear really stood out to me; they look like stained glass! I decided to recreate Mirka's - with my own creative touches - for the masquerade at San Diego Comic Con. Mirka wears mostly pink in the comic, so I decided instead of doing the pink/purple combo as seen in the art, to do two-tone pink. I had to consult some images of Seth's gown (Mirka's is meant to be very similar) to design the chest and back of the dress. I used all dupioni silk - about 8 yards total - for the pink parts of the dress and hat. The lining is a somewhat-stretchy metallic gold twill. I used close to 30 yards of metallic gold braid trim for all the detailing. The dress was then embellished with Swarovski crystal flatbacks and chandelier crystals (for the jewelry and dangly bits) and a special type of acrylic stone - resin acrylics - which sparkle very similar to crystal but are cheaper and lighter weight.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I really love how this costume turned out! I need to do a photoshoot with it soon though because I did not get very many good shots of it, and I have made some modifications to it since Comic Con. I also use my own hair for it now (mine is long, straight and blonde too... so why wrestle a wig?!).
